CROWN CAST RELAUNCHES ITSELF INTO THE MARKET
01-05-2005
Crown Cast, specialists in high quality iron and steel product manufacture, has been remoulded under new management with a view to 'raising the level of service and quality of products offered to our customers'.
Newly appointed General Manager, Dudley de Beer says the company has been transformed from top to bottom and is re-launching itself with a modernised image, restructured operational facilities and a mission to improve delivery on all levels.
"Our foundry is striving to heighten its reputation as a reliable supplier of quality cast products made to both domestic and international standards. We pride ourselves on our flexibility and quick turnaround of orders through the modern machinery and production facilities whether handling large or small batches from under 1kg up to 2tons."
Crown Cast is focussing on expanding its customer base in industries such as transport, mining, agriculture and engineering. " We are now also geared up to move into other industries in the next few months as part of a planned growth process. As a medium-sized facility, we are able to provide our customers with an exceptional, cost-effective service that has many advantages over cheap imports from abroad as an example, eliminating uncertainty regarding delivery dates and quality of product."
The 3 500sqm Crown Cast factory in Boksburg offers a full range of facilities. The foundry features a melting capability of 3-tons per hour, supplying molten metal to an automated green sand plant producing up to 700 moulds per shift, and to the resin sand section which produces moulds in flasks and boxes up to 2500mm square, from two 5-ton per hour continuous mixers. A fully equipped pattern shop manufactures and maintains patterns for optimal utilization.
The factory also has an automated cold box and shell core making facility. Spectographic metal analysis, metalography and sand testing is all conducted in an in-house dedicated laboratory. The company has its own spectograph for metallurgical quality consistency.
De Beer points out the company handles a variety of casting sizes and batch volumes, too small for large foundries and out of the scope of smaller ones. "Our factory was built and commissioned in 1992 and has been continually upgraded to ensure the most modern equipment and processes. In addition to management and technical staff, we presently employ some 80 permanent artisans and workmen."
Technically the company has built up a team of highly competent experienced and qualified personnel headed up by De beer, a qualified metallurgist, with 28 years experience in steel and iron foundries.
